Stockings of Love

Stockings of Love

“Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.”                                               1 John 4:11

SOL began 9 years ago in Victory Baptist Church’s Awana program. (Awana is a study for school-age children that includes Bible verse memorization, game time, and adult interaction) We wanted to teach the children the gift of sharing with others. They brought small toys (new and slightly used) and candy. We filled and distributed 50 stockings that first year. Since then, Stockings of Love has grown to a community-wide ministry where toys, clothing, and food are collected during the month of November and distributed in the first week of December.

In 2006, we started being approached with bigger needs. We began to sponsor families who were not eligible for other assistance (private or government). We started purchasing Christmas gifts, food and clothing for those who we could verify met these criteria. That year, we helped 10 families. God has blessed us abundantly and last year we were able to assist 32 families!

In 2010, we started serving a family-style Christmas dinner at the Stockings of Love event. Anyone in need of a hot meal was invited to enjoy a warm, festive environment while church members prepared and served the meal and ministered to their physical and spiritual needs. (The menu includes chicken and dressing, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, rolls and dessert.) After everyone has finished their meal, every child 18 and under receives a stocking full of gifts and each family receives a new Bible. Free clothing is also available if needed. There were almost 200 people in attendance last year and we witnessed 12 salvations!

For those who couldn’t come to the church, we had 5 church vans delivering meals to designated stops in Cedartown, Rockmart, and Aragon. In addition to the Christmas Dinner, stockings are disbursed through non-profit agencies and door to door visits. In 2013, we were blessed to have distributed 350 stockings to children in Polk County. The Lord continues to bless this ministry and this year we plan to have 6 vans on the road! Signs will be posted one week prior as to where the stops will be.

Stockings of Love’s purpose is to spread the GOSPEL of CHRIST, demonstrate CHRISTian love and fellowship, and help meet the spiritual and physical needs of families in Polk County during the CHRISTmas season.

In 2014, Stockings of Love will expand into a year-round ministry that will provide assistance to children who are in need.

Mission Trips

 Mission Trips

"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."                                               -Mark 16:15

At Victory, we believe in community outreach here at home and abroad, "to the uttermost parts of the earth." We support the many members of our church family that go on yearly mission trips to "encourage the dishearten and help the weak" while spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, our risen Savior. Some of the places that have been reached through their efforts are Haiti, Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Grants, New Mexico... just to name a few.

One of our church family members have even established an orphanage in Haiti!  To God be the Glory, great things He has done!  For more information about our local missionaries and how you can help, stop by the Welcome Desk.
